Christine Darrow of Antwerp and Jennifer Girard of Canton were among nine women who received nearly $8,000 in grants through the Maxine M. Quigg Women in Business Fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation. The awards were presented during a reception at The Strand in downtown Watertown.

Darrow, the host and executive producer of the WPBS-TV program “Christine the History Queen,” received funding for public speaking and branding coaching. Girard, a licensed massage therapist at JAG Massage Therapy in Canton, received funding to help pursue an associate degree in massage therapy.

The fund supports women in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties who are starting or growing businesses. It provides grants for education, training and entrepreneurial efforts.

Since grant awards began in 2022, 25 women from the three-county region have received nearly $25,000 in support. The fund honors Maxine Quigg, a Jefferson County real estate broker and community and business leader who died unexpectedly in April 2021 while serving on the Community Foundation’s board.

Applications for 2027 funding are expected to open in the spring, with awards planned for the summer. Applicants can contact Community Foundation philanthropy associate Emily Pfeil at emily@nnycf.org or 315-782-7110 for an application and additional information.
