A Cape Vincent bakery has received a reported $4,125 micro-grant from the Cape Vincent Local Development Corporation to help purchase equipment and increase production capacity.
The grant was awarded to Baked on the Lake Bakery, identified as being owned by Christine Leech and located at 592 E. Broadway. The funds are intended to support the purchase of a double convection oven, a freezer and other equipment.
Town of Cape Vincent Board minutes from May 21, 2026, say the development corporation’s first year of micro-grants funded three projects, including a new commercial bakery’s equipment purchase. The minutes also say the corporation received 15 applications and funded three projects.
The micro-grant program was being developed during 2025 and 2026. Town and village contributions to the development corporation were cut by 50% in April 2025. The program is separate from the Northern New York Community Foundation’s micro-grant program, which serves nonprofits and has a $2,500 maximum award.
Cape Vincent is in Jefferson County along the St. Lawrence River. The village received $4.5 million through the state’s NY Forward program in 2023 for downtown projects, including Broadway streetscape work. A groundbreaking for the Club Street waterfront project was held May 20, 2026.
The development corporation’s meetings are open to the public at Recreation Park, 602 S. James Street, at 5:30 p.m. Updates about the organization are available on its meetings page.
