Diesel prices have become the largest operating expense for LaValle Transportation in Potsdam.

Diesel has become the largest operating expense for LaValle Transportation, a Potsdam trucking company with a fleet of 250 semi-trucks.
The national average diesel price reached $6.52 per gallon Tuesday, up from $3.68 a year earlier, AAA said. Owner Randy LaValley said the company spends about $7 million a month on fuel and is working to keep its employees on the job. Zach Miller of the Trucking Association of New York said trucking companies commonly operate on narrow profit margins and could reduce services or close if fuel prices continue to rise.
