A 50-year-old Potsdam man was injured Sunday evening when he was struck while trying to remove a deer carcass from State Route 56 in the town of Norfolk, New York State Police said. The collision happened at about 6:57 p.m. Oct. 18, 2026, in St. Lawrence County.
Police identified the man as Bradley F. Jerome. He was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said a red 2010 Toyota operated by Jason Briggs, 44, of Potsdam, was traveling north when a deer entered the roadway. Briggs was unable to avoid striking the deer. Jerome was at the scene attempting to remove the carcass when a white 2011 Chevrolet operated by Mark J. Gonyou, 38, of Norfolk, approached while traveling south and struck him.
The police release did not state whether any charges or citations were issued. Drivers can find New York State guidance about deer and moose near roadways through the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Environmental Conservation.
