A documentary focusing on the 10th Mountain Division’s 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, is scheduled to premiere Friday. The unit, known as the “Polar Bears,” is part of the division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
“For Country: First In/Last Out” examines the soldiers’ experiences during the war in Afghanistan. The 10th Mountain Division led Operation Anaconda in March 2002, described as the U.S. military’s first major pitched battle of the Afghanistan war.
The project was developed through discussions involving WPBS-TV and the 10th Mountain Division Museum. Gen. Stephen J. Townsend was among those interviewed for the documentary.
